New Web Site Assists Parents, Teachers in Building 'Daisies' That Are Like Computer Sticker Charts on Steroids

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) October 10, 2007 -- Six years in the making and based on a U.S. patent, http://www.loveandencourage.com/ gives parents and teachers a way to use their own videos, photos, and graphics to motivate their children using "Daisies" that are like sticker charts on steroids.

The creator of loveandencourage.com, Glenn Thomas, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Board Certified Diplomat. Glenn was named the National Association of Social Workers' "Social Worker of the Year 2004 to 2005" for the California Chapter Region B San Jose Unit. A part-time faculty member at San Jose State University, Glenn was a keynote speaker at SJSU's School of Social Work 2006 graduation ceremonies for its bachelors- and master-level graduates.

Daisies are a series of interactive web pages that are linked together to create a web program that is password-protected for children. Parents and teachers can insert their own videos, photos, or graphics to make the web program personal and motivating.

Parents and teachers can create Daisies for children all over the world to join. See an example of a teacher making a Daisy to help promote studying spelling at http://www.loveandencourage.com/daisy/?event=publicPreview&daisyID=115

Glenn stated, "We created this program so parents and teachers can insert timed video games as rewards. You can create as many Daisies as you like for your children or students to use individually or in groups. We made Daisies so that teachers can choose to have students compete with each other individually or in groups for fun. What we are really proud of is making it possible for you to make Daisies that other children in the world can join. That's when it gets exciting. It's like having computer sticker charts on steroids."

Information about best research and best evidence practices is high on the list of priorities for http://www.loveandencourage.com/ Glenn said, "We pulled together some of the best information for parents and teachers to base their decisions on, and that information is updated daily. We have specialized search engines that can pull information from only trusted and best evidence areas of the web."

There are five forums included on the web site for parents, teachers, foster parents, and researchers to share ideas and Daisies. There are also numerous printing functions that allow you to print records. While your child is viewing the Daisies and becoming motivated to learn new behaviors, you can print out a sticker chart with customizable stickers.

Glenn said, "Daisies are so unique that if you find one you like, you can copy it, keep it the same, or make small changes to it to make it perfect for your child. You can also find Daisies that you like that are joinable and all you do is click a button to connect your child to the Daisy. You can take any Daisy for a test drive to see exactly what your child will see. We hope parents and teachers will sit with their children every time they use their Daisies. That way, parents and teachers can reinforce their children's positive behaviors by reading aloud the social praise along with their children."

The web site is completely safe for children and is built to specific legal guidelines that keep children's identities protected and secure. Glenn said, "I designed this site to be perfectly safe for children. An adult cannot contact any child on our system, period."

Glenn is credited with creating two other commercial software firsts. In 1989 he created "Positively Rewarding," the first commercial sticker chart in a computer software for the Apple IIe published by Tom Snyder Productions to motivate children. In 1991 Glenn created the first commercial online grade book called the "Home-School Communicator," published by Intellimation chosen by Apple Computer to be its sole distributor of instructional software to educators.

Glenn currently works at KidScope, a hybrid pediatric/mental health clinic in San Jose, California, where he heads up the Disruptive Behavior Program for children ages 3 to 8, many with ADHD. He also co-created a 15-week parenting series and large research project called "Children with Autism Parenting Education and Support" (CAPES).

The cost is $3.95 per child per month for loveandencourage.com's services and unlimited Daisies. A 7-day free trial is available for everyone.
